Road work with Woodland Scenics Smooth It

A while back I had a problem with some track work. During this time I was really dealing with that perfectionism issue, and because of that, I decided to just rip out all of the track I worked so hard on. With the track also came the crossings I had made with Woodland Scenics Smooth it. Since then, the crossings have been bare with the elevated road having nothing to connect to but a drop on onto the tracks. Now the future citizens that will soon be moving into the new town I create, I assume, would like to be able to get from one side to the other! So I need to pave the way for them to get across!

To begin paving the street, I carefully read the instructions on the box of Smooth It. I did not read them the first time, deciding I could just wing it, and I did not like the results. So, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! Next, I needed to place down paving tape so Smooth It did not flow everywhere. I added a good amount of painters tape on to that so that any run off would not go onto the tracks. I let that happen the first time because I tried using the extra painters tape sparingly.

If you think you have enough tape go ahead and place down one more piece on each side just to be safe.

With the tape down it was time to mix up the Smooth It. I did not need to use a lot for this spot and the other further back. The directions for the mixture said 2 cups Smooth It to 1 cup water. I did roughly 1/4th cup Smooth It and 1/8th cup water. You know the mixture is correct if it looks like a milkshake. I took my "milkshake" and poured it right onto the tracks. There is a rectangular piece of plastic that comes with the paving tape. Using that in a side sweeping motion, I evenly applied the Smooth It. The last thing to do was wait till it dried! Definitely wait 24 hours before trying to sand it down but after a couple hours you can take the tape off. Make sure to peel the tape away from you just like if you were painting.

I will be finishing the road soon after it is completely dry. So while you wait, make sure to SUBSCRIBE down below by entering your email address to keep up to date with future postings!
